Garment Analysis – Diane De Clercq Cardigan

I used to travel to New York a lot and if I had a spare couple of hours I would head to Barney's on Madison (how I miss Barney’s!). Up on the designer floor they had a series of miniature mannequins dressed in gorgeous knitwear scaled down beautifully to match the forms. That is how I was introduced to Diane De Clercq.

Diane works with her sister Evelyne in Rome, Italy. Evelyne designs shirts and Diane designs sweaters and knitted accessories. What I love about her work is the use of color. In particular I appreciate how she uses marled and solid colors together in stripes.

 

And the clever shaping techniques are inspired. A lot of the diagonal shapes are achieved by combining racking with tuck stitches. Others are created by fashioning the fabric. I’ve picked a cardigan from Diane De Clercq to show you exactly what I am talking about. Check out the video below.
