Preparation Week (March 9)
Setting up the Ribber
We will start with naming different parts of the ribber bed, then you will learn how to set up your ribber and a few dos and don'ts.
Kick Off Meeting: March 15, 10am PST
We will be hosting a 30 minute zoom meeting on Saturday March 15th, 10am PST to meet and greet everyone, and answer any questions you may have before we kick off Week 1.
Week 1
Rib Starts
We will demonstrate the popular rib starts, and talk about needle arrangements, racking, pitch and half-pitch and transferring stitches between beds. Then we compare the different ribs starts so you have an understanding on why you might choose one over another for your garments.
Week 2
Tuck & Miss with Ribs
We will add tucks and miss stitches to a basic 1x1 rib to create some popular and useful rib stitches. We will also introduce the technical diagrams (loop drawings) used in the industry, to illustrate how the yarn is being carried between the two beds. Don’t worry - these are really fun!
Week 3
Shaping Ribs
This week is all about shaping ribbed fabric focusing on 1x1 and 2x2 ribs. Visible and invisible increases and decreases will all be addressed. You will also learn how to increase, and bind off multiple stitches on the edge, while maintaining the rib structure.
Week 4
Punch card, and Short Rows on the Ribber
Using punch-cards you already have, you get to play around with tucking and striping. Then try your hand at short rows before a quick look at the other accessories you may have with your ribber.
We have included the Roadkill Mitts pattern to round up the techniques you learned from this class – rib start, tuck rib, shaping, and rehanging with waste yarn to attach the thumbs to the mitt.
Additional Information
There will be one zoom meeting for this KAL, on Saturday March 15th, 10am PST.
A digital copy of the workbook, with additional resources and assignments, is included.
Included Roadkill Mitts pattern is designed for the standard gauge machine.
